More than just what was taken

The aftermath of a theft can have a significant emotional impact on you and your family. On top of that, you have to prove to your insurer what you owned, what it was worth and how the thieves got in.

A break-in often means damage to doors, windows and locks as well as stolen belongings. Insurers also look closely at policy conditions, such as the locks you were required to have fitted and whether the property was secured.

Our role is to build up a conclusive, thorough list of everything you've lost to present to the loss adjuster, make sure the damage is included too, and represent you if the insurer questions the claim.

FAQs

Common questions

See all FAQs
Do I need a crime reference number?

Almost always. Report the theft to the police as soon as possible and keep the crime reference number, as your insurer will ask for it.

What if I don't have receipts?

Don't worry. Other evidence can help prove ownership and value, such as bank and card statements, photos, manuals, boxes, warranty documents and valuations. We help you put it together.

My insurer says my locks didn't meet the policy conditions. Can you help?

Some policies require certain locks to be fitted or used. Whether a refusal is fair depends on the exact wording and the circumstances, including whether the condition had anything to do with the loss. We review it and challenge the decision where it isn't justified.

Is theft by someone I let into my home covered?

Many policies only cover theft involving forced entry or exit, or treat theft by people lawfully in the property differently. It depends on your wording, so it's worth asking us to check.
